South Africa are sending a team of four walkers to participate in the IAAF World Race Walking Cup competition on Saturday and Sunday in Naumburg, Germany, Athletics South Africa (ASA) announced on Wednesday.

The team, which will be managed by Chris Britz, comprises Nicolene Cronje (CGA), South African champion in the 20km walk, Marc Mundell (AGN), SA champion in the 20km walk, Thinus Esterhuizen (WPA), SA champion in the 10km walk for juniors and Handri Botha (CNW), SA champion in the 10km walk for juniors.

Cronje, who achieved the IAAF B Olympic qualifying standard at the recent Absa SA Senior Championships (Olympic Trials), will go all out to reach the IAAF A qualifying standard and could well return with a new SA record in her pocket.

For the other team members the strong international competition will help them to improve on their personal best times and maybe also come back with new South African records. - Sapa
