Oosthuizen lurks at Valhalla

Johannesburg – Louis Oosthuizen moved into contention with a second round four-under 67 at the US PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club, Louisville, on Friday.

Oosthuizen ended on five under par at the halfway stage in a tie for ninth as the leading South African, four strokes adrift of Northern Irishman and world-number one, Rory McIlroy.

The 2010 Open Champion went out in one under with two birdies and one bogey, but it was on the back nine where he lit up his scorecard.

Oosthuizen managed five birdies against two bogies as he vaulted up 26 spots on the leaderboard on the day.

Richard Sterne was the next best South African as he compiled a second round 69 for a three-under total going into the weekend. Sterne lies tied for 17th after moving up 18 places on Friday.

Ernie Els fired his second successive 70 to end two under for the tournament in a tie for 26th. Also lying 26th was Charl Schwartzel after a 68 helped the 2011 Masters Champion jump 53

places on the leaderboard.

Branden Grace made the cut on the number at one over after shooting a 70.

Tim Clark (74), Rory Sabbatini (71) and George Coetzee (74) all missed the cut.

South African born Johan Kok, now a club professional in America, fired a second round 67, but after a first round 78 still missed the cut. – Sapa
