Johannesburg – Defending champion Rene Kalmer remained unsure on Monday about her availability for this weekend's SA Half-marathon Championships in Cape Town.

Kalmer said she was recovering from a foot injury she picked up at the London Olympics last month.

“I injured my plantar fascia and will have to see how it responds to treatment before making a final decision,” Kalmer said.

“I started practicing today after resting for two weeks.”

Kalmer was the best South African performer in the women's marathon at the quadrennial Games, finishing 35th in two hours, 30

minutes, 51 seconds (2:30:51).

Her training partner, Irvette van Blerk, who dropped out of the Olympic marathon with an Achilles injury, had already confirmed she would not compete in Cape Town. – Sapa
