Johannesburg - Lance Kime and Thulani Mbanjwa will look to bounce back from their Dusi Canoe Marathon disappointment at this year's Non-Stop Dusi Canoe Marathon on Friday.

Tipped as one of three pre-race 2014 Dusi favourites, Kime and Mbanjwa's hearts sank when a wayward rudder tore open the front of their K2 on the first day of the iconic three-day paddling race dashing their hopes of victory.

The duo's efforts in the second and third stages of the race saw them claw their way back to finish in fourth place.

With the frustration and disappointment still lingering, Kime and Mbanjwa are eager to cap off their maiden Dusi season together with a positive Non-Stop Dusi result.

“Non-Stop Dusi had always been a goal for us and so we've been planning for it since we started paddling together a few months ago,” Kime said.

“It is obviously a little more important now though, after our disappointing Dusi, and so we're definitely looking to go for the win on Friday.

“Dusi didn't quite go our way, and that's how it goes sometimes, but we've got a little bit of unfinished business to attend to at Non-Stop.”

Kime has competed in the 'Dusi in a day' just once previously, when he and Kwanda Mhlophe raced to second place behind Andy Birkett in 2012.

Mbanjwa is an old hand having tackled it seven times before, four times victoriously.

The pair will, however, remain unchanged from their fourth placed Dusi approach with Kime set to drive and Mbanjwa to provide valuable insight into how to manage throughout a treacherously long day on the water.

The Non-Stop Dusi Canoe Marathon begins at Camps Drift, Pietermaritzburg on Friday and finishes at Blue Lagoon in Durban.
