PRETORIA - I hate the Poms. I hate the fact that they have found the winning recipe for their rugby while the South African Rugby Union (Saru) stumble over their feet looking for the ingredients to the recipe.

I really hated them on Monday morning as I watched them outwit, outplay and outmuscle the only pride left in our rugby, the Blitzbokke, in the final of the Vancouver Sevens.

I hated them because I stayed up all night to watch the Blitzbokke in the hope that my countrymen would win another title and get one hand on that elusive world series trophy.

And yes I hate that feeling of being gutted with no one to console me in the early and dark hours of the morning for not even my neighbour’s barking dogs could break the eerie silence beset by the Poms, I think they too were devastated by the loss!

I’m just hating the fact that this England side is the only one in the series that has our number, with the three losses and a draw suffered this season all to them.

They have our number that’s right, but rightfully so.

Our best, the Blitzbokke, and the best in the world at the moment seemingly cannot shake off the efforts of the Poms.

We should be walking to our second series win because we are the best and Neil Powell and his boys have really worked hard for it, but no... the English won’t let us.

They keep a watch over us from a distance but not a big enough one and it is them that I fear could haul us in and steal victory from our grasp in the final tournament at Twickenham.

I hope it doesn’t happen and I hope this white flash sweeping through the rugby world is fleeting and will come to an end soon.

Maybe the Irish will beat England just to ensure they don’t become the new holders of the world record of 19 consecutive victories.

Yes I would love for that All Black record to be erased, but not by the Poms.

But against all of my wishes and protestations I get that horrible feeling that the Poms are going to win.

They shouldn’t have beaten the Blitzbokke in that final in Vancouver in the same way they shouldn’t have beaten the same team in their home final in Cape Town in December.

This is because they went shopping for the best cook in Eddie Jones and he came up with the best recipe and was ably aided by English rugby structures being sound and well-administered.

And they have our number, they are the only team to have defeated the Blitzbokke this season three times which includes two finals and a draw.

And to think that Jones was ours in 2007 as a consultant for the Boks when they won the World Cup and two years ago when he was Stormers coach, even if it was for a fleeting moment.

Oh the joy Jones would have brought to the Cape and ultimately to the country! It should be us that have the champagne on ice about to celebrate that world record.

However, this won’t happen any time soon even though we have the ingredients and the recipe.

The people that run our rugby, the administrators that fall over themselves in dishing out the ugly mess that was shoved down our throats with the Boks last year, even though we have some of the best players in the world.

I hate what Saru are doing to our rugby and I still hate the Poms.
