DURBAN – English side Northampton Saints have announced that Springbok and Sharks scrumhalf Cobus Reinach would be joining their ranks ahead of their 2017/18 season, and at the end of Super Rugby.

There was much speculation that Reinach, as well as lock Etienne Oosthuizen, would be leaving at the end of the season, with the former only being confirmed on Monday. The Sharks as yet have not commented publicly on the scrumhalf’s departure.

Reinach has recently returned to the Sharks set-up, partnering Pat Lambie in their season opener against the Reds last Friday.

The 27-year-old, who has 10 Springbok caps to his name, looks to be a key member of the Sharks’ campaign this year, but it seems that the lure of the pound has won out as there was talk earlier in the year that the Sharks were doing all they could to keep their players.

Reinach affirmed that despite the announcement coming during the Super Rugby competition, he remained committed to the team he had played all his professional rugby for.

“I want to thank everyone at the Sharks for all they’ve done for me in my career, and I’m 100 percent committed to them until the end of the season. I’m looking forward to the Super Rugby campaign and hopefully finishing on a high note with the Sharks and regaining my place in the Springbok squad,” Reinach said.

Northampton boast another South African scrumhalf in their squad in former Stormers No 9 Nic Groom.
