CAPE TOWN – DHL has renewed its sponsorship of Western Province Rugby, for a period of four years from and including 2017, making it the longest association in the province’s rugby history.

The terms of the sponsorship include naming rights to the home stadium of WP Rugby, DHL Newlands.

Commenting on the renewed sponsorship, WP Rugby group chief executive Paul Zacks said: “Having the support of a major brand such as DHL makes a huge difference to the team and management, and enables us to work in a high-performance environment.”

DHL signed its initial three-year agreement with WP Rugby in 2011. Hennie Heymans, chief executive for DHL Sub-Saharan Africa, commented: “Having been a partner to Western Province Rugby for the past six years, we consider ourselves an extension of the team.

“We are committed to remaining hands-on, responsible partners to Western Province Rugby. The years ahead will be the best ones yet.”

Recently, DHL took two Stormers players, new captain Siya Kolisi and Scarra Ntubeni, to visit the company’s operations in Lagos to give them a feel for the business and to experience Nigerian culture.

The visit also helped to promote interest in rugby in Nigeria.

Thelo Wakefield, president of WP Rugby Football Union, remarked that he was proud of the continued support of DHL, as it lent prestige to the union.
