CAPE TOWN – Stormers flyhalf Brandon Thomson has joined Glasgow Warriors for two months on a short-term deal.

The 21-year-old will be at the club as flyhalf cover, with Finn Russell away with Scotland and Peter Horne currently sidelined with an ankle injury.

Thomson has played six times in Super Rugby for the Stormers, making his debut in 2016 and scoring 26 points to date.

Director of Rugby Gert Smal said that this was a great opportunity for Thomson to gain some experience of European rugby in order to return to Cape Town a better player.

“Brandon will be exposed to different conditions and playing styles in Europe, which can only make him a better player.

“We wish him well on his short stay in Glasgow and look forward to seeing what impact this has on his game,” he said.

Meanwhile, Stormers and former SA Under-20 prop Oli Kebble looks like he’s headed to Scotland to also play for Glasgow.

South African-born Kebble studied at London’s Dulwich College and played a year in France before returning to his homeland.

If he goes to Glasgow, the 24-year-old will team up with current Stormers centre Scotland centre Huw Jones, who has signed a two-year deal, according to BBC Scotland.

As Kebble is not tied to South Africa, he could be eligible to represent Scotland after three years in that country.

Kebble, the son of ex-Springbok prop Guy Kebble, who won four caps from 1993-94, won the 2012 Junior World Championship with South Africa Under-20.

The 124kg prop is chiefly a loosehead, but can play on either side of the scrum. He played 34 times for the Stormers in Super Rugby and helped Western Province take the 2014 Currie Cup title.

His provincial coach John Dobson said in September that Kebble “has the ability to be the best loosehead in the world”.

If selected, Kebble would be a candidate to follow South Africa-born WP Nel and Josh Strauss, who are both regular Scotland internationals after completing their respective 36 months of residency.
