Prince Harry was among a crowd of 12 000 people who watched England’s open training session at Twickenham on Friday.

The Prince, named patron of the Rugby Football Union in December, chatted to coaches and players including captain Dylan Hartley after the hour-long session overseen by head coach Eddie Jones.

After their opening two victories in the RBS 6 Nations, England’s next game is against Italy at Twickenham a week tomorrow and the opposition team in the session wore sky-blue bibs to represent Azzurri jerseys.

It is the second time this week that Prince Harry has seen the squad training - on Thursday he was able to stroll from his home in the grounds of Kensington Palace to nearby Hyde Park where the team had a session.

Jones joked: ‘He doesn’t seem to be showing much interest in going into the scrum. He did pop along to one of our Hyde Park sessions yesterday — he didn’t seem keen on being lifted either.’

Talking about the open session, Jones explained: ‘It’s one of the tougher ones we do in the week. It’s good for the general public to get an understanding of how hard the boys do train and the intensity they get to.’
