Johannesburg – Banyana Banyana are eager to end their year on a high, according to coach Joseph Mkhonza, as they go in search of a second successive victory on Sunday and a place in the semi-finals of the African Women's Championships.

The South Africans lost 1-0 against hosts Equatorial Guinea in their opening Group A fixture but bounced back with a 1-0 win over Senegal in their second clash on Wednesday.

Banyana will book themselves a spot in the playoffs if they beat Democratic Republic of Congo in their final group match in Bata.

“Our goal has always been to do our best in this tournament in a bid to improve on our African ranking of fourth and our world ranking of 56th,” Mkhonza said on Friday.

“Being an Olympic year, it's been busy on the 2012 calendar, but the players want to finish the campaign off in the best way possible.”

Banyana captain Amanda Dlamini said they hoped to go all the way in the continental tournament.

“We have our hopes set high on making it as far as we can in the tournament,” he said.

“We created plenty opportunities in the previous encounter against Senegal and will be looking to capitalise on chances we create up front in the encounter against DR Congo.” – Sapa
