BOLTON, England – Bolton has fired manager Owen Coyle after the club's poor start to the second-tier League Championship following their relegation from the Premier League.

Bolton is 18th in the 24-team standings with 11 points from 10 games.

Bolton chairman Phil Gartside said Tuesday that “Owen poured his heart and soul into the job ... and he led our club with great dignity during some very challenging times,” but added “it is the right time for a change.”

Coyle was praised for the way he supported Fabrice Muamba after the midfielder suffered an on-field cardiac arrest during an FA Cup match at Tottenham in March.

But his team's 11-year stint in the country's top division came to an end and they have won just three matches this season. – Sapa-AP
