With just one last chance to get some silverware from this season, Mamelodi Sundowns will go all out to beat Ajax Cape Town this coming weekend and win the Nedbank Cup.

After that there won’t be rest for Downs coach Pitso Mosimane. The former Bafana Bafana coach will be in the boardroom both off-loading and luring players to the club, as he puts together a team to challenge for the Absa Premiership title next season. Mosimane is also likely to send some players on loan, recall others from loan spells and make new additions to the side.

“We need to make some changes and we need to strengthen the team. I believe the team can be stronger. After Ajax we might make an announcement and do our post- season assessment and give other guys a chance to play if they didn’t manage to play. There’s no need to hold on to players if you haven’t given them a chance, especially if they have been at the club for more than two years,” said Mosimane.

Despite his side’s failure to win any trophies so far, Mosimane is of the view that Sundowns did well.

Mosimane will get a chance to redeem himself with a trophy against a youthful Ajax side at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Saturday. But his counterpart Roger De Sa will not be on the bench after he was sent off during their 2-2 draw against Orlando Pirates on Saturday.

“The coach who is sent off has nothing to do with impact on the game. Stuart Baxter was out for two games and what happened? They won the two games. That’s nothing. The team is there, the system is there,” said Mosimane after his side beat the University of Pretoria 1-0 at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville.

Tuks finished 13th on the table. Their coach Sammy Troughton says the team need to improve drastically if they want to keep up with the other sides next season.

Tuks have a big challenge to hold on to some of their key players – notably Geofrey Massa and Thabo Mnyamane who have attracted plenty of attention from other sides. -Star
