JOHANNESBURG – Having come through a busy schedule of playing catch up with crucial Absa Premiership matches against Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates and Maritzburg United in seven days – and winning all of them – it should be no surprise that Bidvest Wits dominate our Team of the Week.
The Clever Boys went top of the log when they narrowly beat defending champions Sundowns thanks to a rare goal from midfielder Ben Motshwari last week on Monday in Milpark, then hosted Pirates at the same venue and brushed them aside by the same scoreline, before wrapping up their congested fixture list with another 1-0 victory over Maritzburg.
Keeping a clean sheet in all three games means it is a no-brainer that goalkeeper Moeneeb Josephs gets the nod between the sticks in our selection, and is joined by three of his four defenders in Sifiso Hlanti, captain Thulani Hlatshwayo and young Reeve Frosler.
Bongani Khumalo only misses out because Thabo Nthethe was an absolute rock for Sundowns in his return to the starting lineup this week, scoring in their 2-2 draw against Platinum Stars last Thursday and helping them keep a clean sheet against Pirates on Sunday in their 2-0 win in Soweto.
