London – Arsenal forward Theo Walcott claimed the quickest goal of the Premier League season when he broke the deadlock after just 20 seconds of his side's game at Queens Park Rangers on Saturday.

Fans at Loftus Road were still taking their seats when the England international calmly beat goalkeeper Rob Green from Aaron Ramsey's through ball.

Walcott's strike beat the record established earlier in the season by former Arsenal striker Robin van Persie, who gave Manchester United the lead at home to West Ham United in November after 33 seconds.

Former Tottenham Hotspur defender Ledley King holds the record for the fastest goal in the post-1992 Premier League era, having netted after only 10 seconds in a game at Bradford City in December 2000. – Sapa-AFP
