Micah Richards has urged Manchester City to rush Carlos Tevez back into the team and save their title challenge from falling apart.
City’s defeat at Swansea on Sunday saw them knocked off the top of the Barclays Premier League for the first time in five months. It also means that Roberto Mancini’s side could be four points adrift of rivals Manchester United by the time Chelsea arrive at the Etihad Stadium a week tomorrow.
Mancini must decide whether to recall Tevez for his first game since September, but Richards insists that City’s rebel striker is the big-game player they need to turn the title race back in their favour.
After plundering 98 goals in all competitions this season, City looked short of ideas as they were shut out in a shock 1-0 defeat at the Liberty Stadium, just three days after losing away to Sporting Lisbon in the Europa League.
England defender Richards said: “I’m a big fan of Tevez. I’ve always said that I love him.
“There were games last season when he carried us on his own; games like this where he would get a 1-0 win for us. Ultimately, it’s up to the manager but I’d love to see him back.”
Meanwhile, City defender Joleon Lescott is expected to be fit to face Chelsea after missing the Swansea game with a groin problem. - Daily Mail
