London – Uefa confirmed on Friday that it has imposed a three-game ban on Chelsea captain John Terry for the red card he collected in the Champions league semi-final.
Terry kicked Barcelona forward Alexis Sanchez in the back of the thigh in an off the ball incident. He was sent off and Uefa have confirmed the standard punishment for violent conduct.
Any red card brings a one-match ban, which Terry served by missing Chelsea's victory over Bayern Munich in the Champions League final.
And Uefa's disciplinary panel has confirmed the offence was violent conduct, adding two more games.
Terry will miss the Super Cup final against Europa League winners Atletico Madrid in August and Chelsea's first Champions League group-stage match in September.
Terry and Chelsea can challenge the decision at Uefa's appeals panel. – Sapa-dpa
