Cape Town - Ajax Cape Town’s inconsistency continues to hamper the progress of a talented squad of players.

The Cape side are back in action on Friday night when they host Golden Arrows in a PSL match at the Cape Town Stadium (kick-off 8pm) - and coach Roger de Sa, needless to say, is demanding a better performance and a positive result.

The team’s erratic ways are aptly demonstrated in their last three results - a 1-1 draw with Arrows, a 2-1 win at Jomo Cosmos and a disappointing 3-1 defeat to former Cape neighbours Chippa United in East London at the weekend.

To compound matters in the Chippa loss, Ajax scored early through Travis Graham but failed to hang on as they were blown away by an inspired second-half display from Chippa.

The Capetonians are languishing in 12th position in the 16-team PSL. It’s not a situation that De Sa will be too pleased about, especially considering that Ajax have a hectic fixture schedule to negotiate over the next few months.

In addition to their league and domestic cup commitments, Ajax will also be participating in the CAF Confederation Cup this season. The opening game in this event is in three weeks’ time against GD Sagrada Esperança of Angola, so there’s very little breathing space for De Sa and his squad.

Having played to a 1-1 draw with Arrows in Durban just two weeks ago, De Sa, no doubt, will have fresh memories of the strengths and weaknesses of Friday’s opposition. But, in football, that’s certainly no guarantee of success. The only way for Ajax to achieve the results they desire is to do the business on the field and, more importantly, to convert the scoring opportunities they create.

This week’s PSL fixtures:

Friday: Ajax Cape Town v Golden Arrows (Cape Town Stadium, 8pm)

Saturday: Orlando Pirates v Kaizer Chiefs (FNB Stadium, 3.30pm); Polokwane City v Jomo Cosmos; SuperSport United v Free State Stars; Black Aces v Chippa United; Maritzburg Utd v Mamelodi Sundowns

Sunday: Platinum Stars v University of Pretoria; Bloem Celtic v Wits
