Cape Town – Ajax coach Roger de Sa has conceded there is a lot of work to be done if the Cape side are to turn their fortunes around following their 2-0 defeat to Black Aces at Athlone Stadium on Saturday.
“I wasn't happy with a lot of things, there were too many basic individual errors that we have got to get better at,” De Sa said.
“It wasn't pretty today, I don't think we were fluid, I thought we gave the ball away again, we have got to be better.”
Since beating Polokwane City 2-0 at the end of February, the Urban Warriors have suffered two defeats and two draws in their last four games and have slipped down to 11th spot on the league standings.
The former Orlando Pirates and Wits coach was left with more questions than answers, and could find little in the way of positives from the defeat to AmaZayoni.
“It was a disappointing performance from the first mistake we made Äwhere we conceded a goal Ä it was always going to be uphill,” he said.
“You can't make those mistakes at this level and have it easy against a team like Aces.
“Disappointing from some players, and these are the areas we have got to improve on, even if it's replacing those players, if it's got to come to that.”
Ajax have failed to register a single goal in their last three matches, which was another concern for De Sa.
“I don't remember their goalkeeper making an outright save,” De Sa said.
“The players were bad, the delivery was bad, we didn't hit one shot on target. We could have played until midnight and we wouldn't have scored, a lot to work on once again. There's not too much you can do when you come in during the last third of the season.”
Aces coach Clive Barker had a few words of encouragement for his Ajax counterpart.
“I know that in Roger they have a coach that will nurture them, shout at them when its right to shout at them, turn them around and let them play,” Barker said.
“If you look at the run Orlando Pirates had under his regime, it was magnificent. So let's get right behind him, because we need Ajax to have a good football league, and we certainly need Cape Town to be strong, just not at the expense of a Durban club.”
However, Barker was more than pleased with the showing of his own side.
“I was delighted to come here, because (Ajax) are the fore-runners of teaching teams how to pass a ball,” he said.
“They (the Aces players) pass the ball better than any team in the country, and that includes Sundowns and Chiefs.” – Sapa
