Johannesburg - Wits coach Gavin Hunt was a relieved man following the Johannesburg outfit’s comfortable 3-0 Premiership win over Moroka Swallows at Bidvest Stadium on Friday.

The team's previous two consecutive defeats - having conceded six goals and just two scored - painted a grim picture.

“It wasn’t pretty, was it?,” Hunt said.

“But after we got beaten on Tuesday (3-1 against Ajax Cape Town), it was important for us to bounce back and get a result.”

Ethiopian striker Getaneh Gebede scored a brace before second-half replacement Sameehg Doutie added a third to put the result beyond doubt, and in doing so, took Wits up the table into third spot with 10 points, trailing Kaizer Chiefs by two points at the summit of the league standings.

“There were uglier times (during the match) and the (poor state of the) pitch doesn’t help us, and the weather obviously, but we got a result, which is the most important thing.”

Freezing conditions and a poor playing surface did little to promote attacking soccer on the night, making the 3-0 scoreline all the more impressive, following a dire week for the Clever Boys.

Played just hours after the August transfer deadline, Hunt gave little away when quizzed about his thoughts on the window that was.

“We're always looking to improve, bring some youngsters in. You can never be satisfied with your team, if you are, I think there’s a problem.”
