Cape Town – Cape Town City winger Aubrey Ngoma says he hopes to have “even greater years to come” at the club after signing a contract extension with the club.

City announced on Wednesday that Ngoma and club captain Lebogang Manyama – who has been courted by a number of rival clubs in the transfer window – put pen to paper to stay at the newly-formed team until the 2020-21 season.

“Happy to have extended my stay with @CapeTownCityFC it’s been good 6months I hope to have even greater years to come!! #iAmCityFC” Ngoma posted on Twitter.

Club chairman John Comitis said in a statement that securing the futures of the two key players proved that City are not a “selling club”. Eric Tinkler’s team have made a superb start to life in the top-flight, having won the Telkom Knockout late last year and gone into the PSL break for Afcon in third place on 25 points, level with leaders SuperSport United and second-placed Wits, with just goal difference separating the three teams.

“When ‘in-demand’ players like Aubrey and Lebo make a statement and long-term commitment like this, you begin to understand just how powerful and unified this team is becoming,” Comitis said.

“This sends a clear message that Cape Town City FC is a club for the future – one that strives to play a dynamic brand of football, keeping the talent necessary to compete for trophies every season.

“The idea of ‘cashing in’ is not part of our strategy. We are not a selling club, we are here to win. Our fans and trophy cabinet are what is ultimately important as we strive to bring fan culture and pride back to the Mother City.

“With the ambitions and exciting plans for Cape Town City in the near future, it was an easy decision for Aubrey and Lebo to stay, as they are determined to play integral parts in this journey.

“Our players are at the top of their game because they are happy, motivated and love the club. The team plays for one another and therefore plays without fear.”

City’s first game after the resumption of the league will take place on February 7, when they host HighlandsPark at Cape Town Stadium (7.30pm kickoff).
