CAPE TOWN - The Mother City derby comes at just the right time for Ajax Cape Town.
With morale low after a heavy 5-0 drubbing by Wits on Tuesday, the Cape side needs a response – and what better stage than the Cape rivalry to bounce back.
Ajax coach Stanley Menzo knows his team is up against it when they face high-riding neighbours Cape Town City at the Cape Town Stadium on Saturday night (kick-off 8.15pm), but he believes the derby is the perfect game for the players to re-discover the desire and determination that saw them make rapid improvement towards the end of last year.
“The possibility to lose against Wits was high,” said Menzo. “They have a very good squad, but it was how we lost that was disappointing.
“But there will be moments like that during a season and, hopefully, that is the last one for us.
“But the derby is a nice moment for us. It’s a special game for the people of the city and it’s important that we don’t look at the log.
“It won’t be easy, City are a team who play from the first minute to the last and they have a captain (Lebo Manyama) who is carrying the team.”
