GIG OF THE WEEK

Blood Brothers Concert

Various artists

Carnival City (Tomorrow)

Tomorrow, South Africans will be treated to an extravaganza of rock as local legends Arno Carstens, Fokofpolisiekar, Black Cat Bones and Taxi Violence converge at Carnival City (Elsburg and Heidelberg rds, Brakpan) for one night in aid of the Blood Brothers Concert.

The show is brought to you by Sony Max (DStv Channel 128) which airs popular shows like Guy Code, Tattoo Nightmares, Caught On Camera, Hip Hop Squares and Skin Wars. Before the stars take to the stage, we used the nature of the Sony Max shows to get to know them a bit. You will be surprised at some of their responses.

What is the most important tip in the Guy Code and why is it important in brotherhood?

Isaac Klawansky (Shadowclub) said: “Try your best not to sleep with your mates ex-girl. And, if by mistake you do, tell him. Honesty is king.”

Do you have any tattoos and if so, have you ever had a tattoo nightmare with any of your tattoos going wrong or do you know of anyone who has had any tattoo nightmares?

Francois Van Coke (Fokofpolisiekar) said: “Yes, I do have tattoos. I don’t have any tattoo nightmares, but a friend of mine got the James Small tribal tattoo when he was 14. He still doesn’t want to take off his shirt.”

Have you ever taken or had any pictures taken of yourself that were funny or caused a stir?

Kobus de Kock (Black Cat Bones) said: “Well, these days with Facebook, few things remain sacred, especially in the entertain-ment industry, so yes, I’m sure there are a few pictures around that would make me cringe. Kids have phones, kids have cameras and they’ll snap you anywhere. I’m sure George (Van der Spy) could tell you a story about being naked in the front of the lens, though.”

In keeping with true super group style, this show will see these musicians and more form a band. As with any band, each member has a function and as far as tomorrow goes, this is how things will work. Carstens (Springbok Nude Girls), Albert Frost (Blue Boers/Carstens), Van Coke (Fokofpolisiekar), Van der Spuy (Taxi Violence/Good Night Wembley) and Kobus de Kock (Black Cat Bones) will be on vocals. Hunter Kennedy (Fokofpolisiekar/ aKing/Die Heuwels Fantasties) and Rian Zietsman (Taxi Violence/ Beast) have been assigned to the guitars. Loedi van Reenen (Taxi Violence) will be on bass and guitars, with Jason Hinch (Black Cat Bones) and Klawinsky (Shadowclub) on drums.

They will perform the hits that made them famous as well as songs from bands that influenced their sound. – Munya Vomo

l The show will start promptly at 8pm. Tickets are available online from Webtickets. Prices range between R250 and R350. Tel: 011 898 7000.
