OSCAR-winner Charlize Theron demanded the same pay as her less successful male co-star after hacked emails from Sony Pictures revealed female actresses were often paid less than men.
Theron, 39, pictured, is said to have made sure producers of The Huntsman paid her the same as Chris Hemsworth – £6.6 million (about R115.42m). Her string of accolades includes a best actress Academy Award, while Hemsworth has not even been nominated for an Oscar.
It comes after hacked emails from Sony’s film division revealed the female stars of American Hustle earned less than their co-stars. Jennifer Lawrence got 7 percent of the profits, despite taking the lead in the Hunger Games movies, while Bradley Cooper and Christian Bale took 9 percent.
Theron made her stand during negotiations over her role in the prequel to the 2012 film Snow White And The Huntsman.
A source told the New York Post, which did not reveal the fee she was originally offered: ‘One knock-on effect from the hacking scandal is that there will be more sensitivity about equal pay for actresses.’ - Daily Mail
