MOVIE 43 is a monumental waste of time, not only for the people who made it but also the potential audience.

An absolutely stellar cast directed by a raft of directors with different styles makes for a mishmash of cringeworthy set- ups, drawing on every taboo film-makers normally avoid.

Now, this could have been a good approach considering that tons of money has clearly been thrown at this project – it has an astoundingly high production value considering the torrid subject matter which borders on the wrong side of gross-out, turgid and frankly boring.

Sometimes a story works if it forces you to think about why a subject is avoided or considered inappropriate and whether it is just a social construct born of an outmoded way of thinking.

Alas and alack, that was not the reasoning here. The comedy in each of the skits is based on the shock value of seeing a famous actor make a tit of themselves, and the novelty wears off very, very quickly indeed.

The storyline that hangs the whole group of sequences together is that a teenager sets his younger brother to finding Movie 43 online, a film that is the most shocking film ever made. But, instead of finding a snuff film or the answer to life, the universe and everything, the child finds a series of skits about racism, sexual fetishes and anything considered even mildly raunchy, all of them viewed through a thoroughly scatalogical lens. Yes. There’s much poop to be found here.

The most jaw dropping part about the whole project is not just how far the filmmakers went in search of the puerile, but the fact that they got Oscar winners and fairly well respected actors to play along.

If poo is your thing and you’re old enough to get around this age restriction, this one is for you. Seriously.
