FILMED in George, Born to Win is based on the true story of teacher Leon Terblanche (Greg Kriek), who works at Carpe Diem, a school for the physically disabled.

Directed by Frans Cronje (producer of Faith Like Potatoes), it not only provides an insight into the emotional challenges faced by children with physical disabilities, but it also contains a broadly Christian streak as the teacher is asked the question: where is God?

Produced by Global Creative Studios, the film is an excellent advert for George as a film location, showcasing as it does the area’s natural beauty and considering the film crew received a very warm welcome from the local municipality.

The story plays out over almost 30 years, starting in the 1970s, and while Kriek makes his debut with this feature, Sylvia Mdunyelwa-Kobus, Dorette Potgieter and Grace Sithole, Kwezi Kobus, Merlin Balie, Cobus Venter, Tim Theron, Leandie du Randt and Anrich Herbst round out the cast.

The film receives its cinematic release in South Africa today and already there is talk of a US release early next year.
