South African talent continues to make waves on the international front. Ultramodern rap-rave-hip-hop group, Die Antwoord, were recently invited as a guest on The Late Show with David Letterman on Sony Entertainment Television.
The episode airs on Tuesday night here in South Africa.
This follows leading South African comedian Trevor Noah’s stint on The Tonight Show hosted by Jay Leno.
Die Antwoord performed songs from their second album, Ten$ION, which follows their first release, $O$, which they successfully toured in the US, UK and several other countries around the globe, on the David Letterman show, which featured Sarah Michelle Gellar as one of the guests.
Caroline Hillary, the band’s publicist from Red Flag, said: “They (Die Antwoord) was approached by David Letterman. They are getting bigger and bigger every day. And they are now the face for the Alexander Wang fashion campaign.”
“There is even a YouTube video of Danny DeVito saying how upset he was that he missed the episode. He loves them (Die Antwoord) and their videos. They are really breaking in the states at the moment,” she added.
After completing their professional commitments in the US, Hillary says the group will be touring a few Asian countries before coming back.
“The album Ten$ion just released and, in just a week and a half, it had one and a half million hits on YouTube. They also have another video of their controversial single, F*k Julle N**iers.”
The 13-track album is expected to be a roaring success.
Will the band be touring it nationally?
“I’m not sure, they normally play a couple of gigs here but we just going to have to wait and see.”
Talk about getting a good rap on an international scale for the Enter the Ninja hit makers. Well done to Die Antwoord for flying the South African flag high! I guess it does pay to be “Zef”.
Die Antwoord can be seen on The Late Show with David Letterman on Sony Entertainment Television (DStv channel 113) on Valentine’s Day at 11.15pm.

Conclusive proof that god doesn't exist. If this trash can be so popular and succesful, then there's truly no god.

They are not from Mitchells PLein! They used to go there alot becuase they used to hang out with Isaac Mutant who is known to be the king of Cape Flats Afrikaans rap. Isaac was their "mus paal" who gave them the balls to go ahead with this whole Gangsta persona they portray to the world. They became famous and he is still living in the ghetto...thats life...

I've never heard their music but that doesn't matter because I'm not Afrikaans but that shouldn't matter either because neither are the Americans...lol. In other words 'stop hating', Die Antwoord are doing it for themselves but their shine is 'our'(ie South Africa) shine and I'm loving it. If you think you've got something better to offer the world just do it and watch this space...lol. Big up to Die Antwoord for the shine.

Die Antwoord is musical, artistic genius. It's a show guys and if you're getting caught up in being disgusted by what you're seeing, you're exactly what they're making fun of. Waddy Jones has been working hard, doing different acts for years. He's just been fortunate that finally it's working for him. If you take the show, the lyrics, their interviews.... they're making fun of how serious people take popular culture, commercialisation and globalization. They're essentially flipping the bird to the biggest international music labels and proving that modern day issues such as race, sexuality, culture, language (swearing) is still marred by stereotyped and taboo. They're brilliant - take it in the right context and don't take things too seriously. They don't.

@ Anonymous, they certainly do not come from Mannenberg, as they lived in a flat below myself in the Gardens Centre Cape Town for years. This is a full on stage act, they arewere nothing like this behind closed doors. Quite funny actually....
