Johannesburg - After months of speculation, Big Concerts confirmed today that Red Hot Chili Peppers will be performing in South Africa for the first time.

The legendary rock group are scheduled to perform on February 2 next year at Soccer City in Johannesburg.

They will then play on 5 February at Cape Town Stadium. The Peppers have sold over 60 million albums and won six Grammys. They revolutionised rock music with their groundbreaking 1991 album, Blood Sex Sugar Magik when they combined funk, rock and rap.

The band consists of Anthony Kiedis, bassist Flea and drummer, Chad Smith. They will be supported by Die Antwoord. Tickets go on sale on August 29 for the Johannesburg performance.

Tickets for the Cape Town performance go on sale on 30 August, all via Computicket.

In the meantime music fans can look forward to rap rockers, Linkin Park as well as Madonna wannabe, Lady Gaga, both of whom are booked by Big Concerts to perform in South Africa later this year. – Therese Owen.
