Last-minute arriving Eagles fans thrashed their way through the rain to find their seats for the start of the concert at FNB Stadium just before 8pm on Saturday night.

However, many were still filling the stands as the skies began to clear and the Eagles took to the stage for the final set in their South African tour.

Glenn Frey, Don Henley, Joe Walsh and Timothy B. Schmit did not disappoint the crowd, which was made up of mostly an older, greying generation.

Shortly into their performance, vocalist and guitarist Frey introduced 'Lyin eyes'.

“I want to dedicate this song to my first wife, Plaintiff,” he said, to overwhelming amusement from the crowd.

“He obviously didn't like her much,” one fan could be heard chuckling warmly before returning to watch the band through a set of binoculars.

About an hour into the show, the threatening rain could no longer hold off and a steady flow descended on the open-roof stadium for just under 30 minutes.

People scrambled to the passageways and stood on the steps to try and avoid the rain but still keep a close eye as the 'boys' belted out favourites like Boys of Summer, Heartache Tonight and Life in the Fast Lane.

Despite most beer stands running dry and boerewors stalls battling to draw the crowds, the tens of thousands of revellers seemed perfectly satiated as they left Soccer City.

They were clearly placated by the band's two encores of Hotel California and Desperado. - Sapa
