His real identity remains a closely guarded secret, his private world an illusion.

But on the global stage, the name Bryan Miles is making waves in a world in which nothing is as it appears to be…

The Capetonian is set to perform at the prestigious Magic Castle in Hollywood, California in December – making him, at 29, one of the youngest performers to do so.

Bryan Miles has studied the mysteries of the human mind through illusion, mentalism, magic and hypnosis and his performances have taken him from London to New York.

“Master of the Mind” Miles will be performing his award-winning act which sees him extracting secret thoughts from volunteers’ minds; controlling their behaviour and even explaining the secret behind reading body language.

The Cape Argus spoke to Miles at a school in the Cape Winelands and he explained: “As a child I was always pulling things apart. I wanted to know how things work, as well as why they work.

“This led to my fascination with the human mind and the psychology behind it all. I’ve been performing for close to 15 years, and to be invited to perform at the Magic Castle is a dream come true.”

The Magic Castle is home to some of the greatest magicians from around the globe.

Nestled in the famous “Hollywood Hills”, the 100-year-old mansion is the private clubhouse for the Academy of Magical Arts and their world-famous guests.

David Gore, director of the College of Magic in Cape Town, said: “This is an absolute honour for Bryan Miles, and for South Africa. To be (one of) the youngest performers invited to perform at the Magic Castle is a dream come true for many aspiring illusionists.”
