Durbanite Khaya Mthethwa has been crowned this year’s South African Idol.
The 25-year-old beat Melissa Allison from Port Elizabeth to win the the eighth season of Idols.
Khaya has been a crowd favourite from the start, although the Idols journey for the gospel-influenced singer has been riddled with highs and lows.
Earlier this week when talking about how Durban was hoping for him to win, more so after L’loyd Cele came close to doing so last year, Mthethwa said: “This ‘win’ ... will be for the city of Durban, too – to prove we have talented performers.” - IOL
