Jack Nicholson is the man. Just ask David Spade.

The Just Shoot Me funnyman has dated a bevy of Playboy models in the past, but he proved no match for Hollywood legend Nicholson in a love triangle involving Lara Flynn Boyle.

In an interview with Details, Spade said Nicholson made no secret of his affection for Boyle, the Twin Peaks star.

“Nicholson asked Lara Flynn Boyle out in front of me, while we were all smoking a doob somewhere,” said Spade. He added that Boyle, who he was dating at the time, was angry that he didn’t intervene.

“She got mad because I didn't stick up for her.

“I said, ’I've been in this town long enough to know when I'm outranked. You're either gonna go out with him or you're not’. She goes, ‘No way. He's worse than Trump!’”

Boyle was evidently protesting too much. Despite her initial dislike of the Chinatown star, Boyle was discovered in the same car as Nicholson during a crash on Mulholland Drive. The actress allegedly clambered out of the car through the sunroof, yelling: “I have a boyfriend! I can't be here!”

The National Enquirer called up Spade to get his take on the story. “That's how I found out,” he said.

Boyle soon began accompanying Nicholson to events all over Hollywood. They were an item for several years after.
