JK Rowling doesn’t take any prisoners.

The Harry Potter author dismissed a body-shaming troll on Twitter with a succint “You’re an idiot” and won new-found admiration from her legions of fans.

Rowling had been in a celebratory mood after Serena Williams’ Wimbledon win on Saturday. She tweeted: “#SerenaSlam! I love her. What an athlete, what a role model, what a woman!” after Williams’ triumph on Centre Court moved her one step closer towards her goal of holding all four major tennis titles in one calender year.

But, as is the nature on most social media platforms, it didn’t take long for the party-poopers to rear their heads.

“Ironic then that main reason for her success is that she is built like a man,” read the tweet that raised Rowling’s ire.

In response, she tweeted two pictures of Williams in a figure-hugging red dress with the caption: “‘she is built like a man’. Yeah, my husband looks just like this in a dress. You're an idiot.” Her response has since been retweeted over 600 000 times.

This isn’t the first time Rowling has taken on Twitter trolls.

In May this year, she tweeted a withering put-down to a man who had insulted her during a debate about the elections.

“The Internet doesn’t just offer opportunities for misogynistic abuse, you know. Penis enlargers can also be bought discreetly,” she wrote.
