Dame Helen Mirren, 69, thinks award shows are pointless.

The Oscar-winner insists she doesn’t care about receiving accolades for her work because “there’s no winning or losing in art”.

The star said: “In our job as actors and actresses, we are first and foremost artists. And artists are not athletes. There’s no winning or losing in art, honestly.”

The British actress, picked up the favourite Leading Actress award at the Broadway.com Audience Awards reception in New York City on Tuesday, but claims she was fully prepared to walk away empty-handed.

She told People.com: “Well, you don’t think about (winning), honestly.”

Helen has admitted she only accepted her damehood for her services to the performing arts in 2003 for the sake of her late parents. She said: “Becoming a dame was a whole different thing. It was to do with my family, with my mum and dad, and the world I grew up in… but I accepted it for my parents.”
