TO L-Tido2

"I am amped up for this performance because it has been a long time coming,” said rapper L-Tido (pictured) about his performance at the next Ciroc and MTV Base Club Takeover.

The show was scheduled for last year but unfortunately fell on the Friday after the death of Nelson Mandela, so out of respect, it was postponed.

Between then and now, a lot has happened in L-Tido’s life, including a Metro FM Music Award nomination.

“I am elated that the album (All of Me) did well and I was nominated. Now I am looking at going there to win it,” he said.

Although L-Tido faces competition from the likes of Kwesta and iFani, he feels he stands a good chance.

“I really worked on a new sound on this one. If I didn’t win and I had to elect someone else, I would still choose me. I think my album is that good,” he chuckled.

Happy about that nomination and the possibilities it brings, L-Tido will be featured at the Ciroc and MTV Base Club Takeover which will be held at Kong in Rosebank tomorrow night.

“I have a new sound that I am hoping to sample for my fans on the night so I hope they like it. I will also give them the older hits just to mix it all up,” he explained.

MTV Base will be there in full force with cameras capturing the event for those who did not make it in person. When it airs on February 26, it will look like something out of a Jersey Shore episode.

There will be a series of performances on one stage, dancers on another and several Ciroc bottles floating around the room.

Joining L-Tido on the stage will be one of house music’s finest artists, Lulo Cafe, who has also just received an incredible four Metro FM Music Award nods.

“What is awesome about my sound right now is that I have risked all by doing what is known as a ‘producer’s album’ and I wasn’t sure how people would respond to it. So to have Metro FM give the project the nod four times, I feel like it is a huge affirmation that I am on to something,” said the DJ.

Regarding the show tomorrow, Lulo Cafe felt the platform gave him the chance to let all those who didn’t know what his new sound was about, experience it.

“I experimented a lot and I want people to hear which direction I am taking. For instance, I worked with the Zulu folk singer Bongeziwe Mabandla, who has an amazing talent, but has never done house. So our collaboration for me is something I am really excited to show off at the MTV Base event,” he said.

“I also think that it is pretty awe- some that the event will be shown on TV because that will give the fans a taste of what our live shows can be like,” he said.

Other acts on the night will include Naked DJ, Warras, Vigi, Dimples and Pro. Show starts at 10pm and R150 gets you in.

• Ciroc and MTV Base Club Takeover of Kong will air on MTV Base (DStv channel 322) on February 26 at a time to be confirmed.
