Every day we see old celebrities try to bounce back and it’s always as sad sight.

However, with Flex & Shanice, (Flex Alexander and Shanice Wilson) we are going to make an exception.

He was a funny actor who brought us the hot sitcom One On One, while she is a singer responsible for hits like I Love Your Smile and When I Close My Eyes.

So collectively they are a cool couple, known for individually doing great things in the entertainment business.

About 15 years ago, while they were both on top of their games, Flex popped the question and they’ve been married ever since.

They have two children and that’s perhaps why they have slowed down in their careers.

They are obviously using Flex & Shanice, the reality show, to bounce back into relevancy.

We get to catch up with them and find out what it is that they have been busy with and what they have in store.

However, the question is, do we need them?

That would be a resounding “yes” and we will discuss why. To start with, ’90s R&B would never have been the same without Shanice.

If you know your ballads then when you hear her name the next thing to follow is her music in your ears.

She was one of those multiple hitmakers who helped build the new jack swing sound.

Flex is no stranger to TV. He might have started out as an acrobatic dancer, which earned him the nickname “Flex”, but as he grew he managed to diversify his craft into stand-up comedy and then straightout acting. He has appeared in several productions including The Hills Have Eyes 2, Snakes On A Plane and Juice, to mention a few.

His sitcom One On One has to be one of his career highlights as it was one of the leading sitcoms in the early 2000s.

His dancing skills saw him become one of the few actors to star as Michael Jackson (Man in the Mirror: The Michael Jackson Story).

So, just based on what they have done, it is worth seeing them back in a reality show, telling the world about their plans for the future.

R&B still needs saving so it would be an honour to have Shanice back. Babyface and Toni Braxton (Tamia, too) bit the bullet and stuck to their guns, bringing in some soulful music at a time when hip hop rules and they still made sales.

Shanice can join that success as she does not need any introduction. If she needs to adapt then people like Mariah and Brandy can show her how, but the bottom line is, she still owes her audience a lot of music.

Then her hubby still has some years in him. When he stars in serious shows like The Hills Have Eyes 2 you can’t take him seriously so he should stick to comedy.

There isn’t any huge sitcom right now outside of The Big Bang Theory so there is a market for another One On One or My Wife and Kids. Flex should come up with another idea and save the sitcom world.

l Flex & Shanice will air on Vuzu at a date to be confirmed at the end of this month.
