Say what you want about Shonda Rhimes, but when she reels her viewers in, she hooks them with the perfect bait each and every time.
We are in season 11 of Grey’s Anatomy. While there are those fans-turned-foes who are slating the series for wallowing in melo-dramatic, OTT and, bluntly put, incredulous plots, there are those die-hards who can’t get enough of her heady concoction of romance, break-ups, family discord and fragile friendships perched on that overstrained professional hotbed of crisis after crisis.
So what if the emotions suffocate at times? This is one of those guilty pleasures like Devious Maids…you can’t but be transfixed.
This season was a bittersweet one for viewers as it was Sandra Oh’s last season before hanging up her coat as the emotionally detached Dr Cristina Yang – Meredith Grey’s BFF.
The banter between the two was both incorrigible and side-splitting at the same time.
Other big story arcs this season included Arizona trying to fix her broken marriage. And April, still hung up on the delectable Dr Jackson Avery, prepared for her big day.
Of course, nothing goes as planned for everyone – especially Derek, who finds himself trapped between a once-in-a-lifetime job opportunity and his family.
Sheer escapism!
