ELIZABETH SNEDDON THEATRE: The acclaimed “motivational speaking” musical comedy, The Loser, starring comedian Aaron McIlroy in one of his best solo performances, returns to the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre until September 23. The production mercilessly lampoons public speakers, subjecting the business of corporate motivation and “sales-speak” to a rigorous shake-down as a roster of outlandish individuals take the floor in McIlroy’s wacky style. STABLE THEATRE: Maluju Zulu returns to the stage after six years from Thursday to Sunday. Written and directed by Bonkinkosi Shangase, the production is set during the time when British forces occupied the village of Nkandla. Focusing on a story of love struggling to survive in a context of tribal wars, it reflects on how borders created between local communities during British occupation led to ongoing strife. Tickets: R60 at the door. Schools performances: Thursday and Friday at 11am. (R20 a pupil). Shows from Thursday to Saturday: 6pm with a 3pm matinee on Sunday.

GLENWOOD: The sixth annual Glenwood Festival offers music, sports, family, food, art and spiritual events from Thursday to Sunday. On Friday at 6pm see the Glenwood Community Proms. Tickets: R65 at Glenwood Prep School. Saturday: sports and fun events for the young people. The Artists in Action and annual Glenwood Chess Challenge is on at Glenwood Prep. THE BAT CENTRE: Some of Durban’s most talented Indian and coloured stand-up comedy acts will share the stage in Chaarous and Bruinous 2 – Reloaded. This edition sees Henry Ramkissoon of Ding-a-lings fame join radio jock Neville Pillay, Neil Green, Calvin Stoffel, Liam E and Dhaveshan Govender, among others. Saturday, 8pm. THE HERITAGE THEATRE: The musical tribute Eagles – Taking It Easy covers the meteoric rise to fame of the Eagles in the 1970s and ’80s and includes numbers such as Hotel California, Tequila Sunrise, Lyin’ Eyes, Get Over It and Heartache Tonight. Directed by Dawn Selby, guitars by Barry Thomson, Andy Turrell, Riaan Jacobsz and Shaun Dragt. Ends September 23. THE BARNYARD THEATRE: The nation is feeling proud after our sporting stars’ successes at the Olympics and now The Barnyard is celebrating our musical heroes with Special Stars until October 7.
