WESTVILLE GIRLS HIGH: As part of its celebration of 50 years of excellence, Westville Girls’ High School presents The Wiz, the urbanised retelling of L Frank Baum’s The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. More than 100 girls from the school perform in the musical with male contributions from Westville Boys’ High. The show is directed by Claire Spinelli assisted by Roxanne Fuller, and boasts the involvement of Evan Roberts as musical director, set by Bryan Hiles and graphics by MC, poet and artist, Ian “Ewok” Robinson. The venue is the school’s new Mary Johnstone Centre. Shows: 7pm tomorrow and Thursday (gala/VIP performance) with matinees today at 3.30pm and a performance for primary schools on Thursday at 10am. DURBAN ICC: The award-winning British comedian and master of the edgy oneliner, Jimmy Carr, has teamed up with Comedy Central and Real Concerts for his new stand-up show, Jimmy Carr – Gagging Order, on Monday. Known for his signature laugh and near-the-knuckle dark humour, Carr knows how to make people chuckle, having performed live to more than 1.5million comedy fans, sold more than one million DVDs and hosted countless TV shows. Gagging Order promises to be a hilarious night out, packed with one-liners, stories and jokes: some clever, some rude and a few downright unacceptable! THE PLAYHOUSE: Classic ballet masterpieces performed to music by French composers are what audiences will experience when Crown of the Russian Ballet tour the country. The innovative Moscow company will perform two shows only, on Thursday and Friday, at 7.30pm. The programme celebrates masterpieces of French music in ballet, including Camille Saint Saens’ Dying Swan, Jacques Brel’s Don’t Leave Me and Ravel’s Bolero.
