CATALINA THEATRE: From hip hop to contemporary, street and break dancing, expect a one-of-a-kind dance event as the Durban Dance Movement Festival returns this week. The event is a platform for those groups and dance communities around KZN that don’t have an opportunity to present their works to an audience. Showcases professional dancers, studios, community groups, street groups, youth groups and community performances from varied dance styles. Friday to Sunday at the Catalina Theatre, Wilson Wharf. TINA’S HOTEL (Kloof): The Gee Jays (Gary McKenzie, John Didlick and Grant Bell) are back with Don’t Tune Me – Ek Se. The line-up, together with the usual madcap antics of The Gee Jays, will have you rolling in the aisles. Expect tunes from the likes of Bob Marley, Lobo, Paul McCartney and the Wings, The Village People, The Beatles, The Bee Gees, The Bellamy Brothers, Cliff Richards, and the great Neil Diamond. Not to mention some of the many great South African bands who made it big in the 70’s, like Charisma, Alan Garity and even Jeremy Taylor. Ends Sunday, with lunchtime shows on Wednesday and Friday to cater for the festive season corporate market and is presented in “supper theatre” format. THE RHUMBELOW THEATRE (DBN): Under the Covers with The Reals (Barry Thomson, Dawn Selby, Mali Sewell and Jason Andrew) stages weekends from December 5 to 14. Each member of The Reals has their own musical tastes which will be exposed in the repertoire of the show. Expect a new song selection from rock artistes including Led Zeppelin, Supertramp, Mark Knopfler, Rainbow, Heart and The Cream, with an interesting and “real” creative twist. SUNCOAST CASINO: It is an accepted fact that Cinderella is the world’s favourite pantomime. Gone is Cinderella. Enter Sinder-Fella, Princess Charming and the Fairy Godfather. The team is back: Anthony Stonier (whose legs are a World Heritage site) and Clinton Small (last year’s surfer dude) play the Ugly Sisters; Thomie Holtzhausen is the Fairy Godfather; and Katy Moore is Princess Pandora Hugetit of Ballito. Joining them are Rowin Munsamy as the Princess’ loyal supporter, Button, and Mpilo “Straw” Nzimande as Sinder-Fella. Ends December 30.
