Rust Coloured Skirt will be performed at Artscape on Sunday.

• The Magic of Operetta runs July 22 at the Baxter Concert Hall. Director, producer, singer and academic, Angelo Gobbato, will stage a programme tracing the development of operetta from its French beginnings to the modern musical. 7.30pm. R125 at Computicket.

• Rust Coloured Skirt, presented by Alfred Hinkel’s Garage Productions, at Artscape on Sunday at 6pm. In aid of Cape Town dance legend Christopher Kindo who is battling a life-threatening illness. Rust Coloured Skirt is an auto-biographical consideration of dance as a medium through which life is experienced, from the perspectives Hinkel, Debbie Goodman-Bhyatt, Adelaide Majoor and Byron Klassen. • Bhabha runs from Thursday to Saturday at the Artscape Theatre. Bhabha, (meaning “to fly” in Xhosa), a new Jazzart work, framed within the themes of democracy and freedom, is choreographed by Moeketsi Koena and directed by Jackï Job. 8.15pm. R80 to R100 at Computicket.

• Sinnerman runs from Thursday to Sunday at The Masque Theatre. South African singer Auriol Hays in a tribute to Nina Simone with her own compositions. 8pm. Tickets R100 at 021 788 1898.

• The Modern Africa runs from Thursday to Saturday at the Alexander Theatre. Would you be able to spot the African if they walked into a room? Probably not! There have been many false assumptions that have been circulating in recent years regarding who and what the African is. Now the time has come for the truth to emerge. • Desire Under the Elms runs until July 26 at the Baxter Golden Arrow Studio. Eugene O’Neill is considered one of the world’s greatest playwrights and the father of modern American drama. This production transposes O’Neill’s New England setting to the Eastern Cape in the 1890s. 7pm. R120 at Computicket.

• Fishers of Hope ends August 2 at the Baxter Theatre. Set along the lakes of Kenya, Lara Foot’s production explores the theme of hope: its essence, its longevity and its possible demise. Starring Mncedisi Shabangu, Shaun Oelf, Phillip Dikotla, Lesedi Job, Phillip Tipo Tindisa. Choreographer: Grant van Ster. Lighting: Benever Arendse. 7:30pm. R120 at Computicket.

• Slowly runs from Thursday to August 3 at the Artscape Arena. As invading barbarians approach the palace of a decaying culture, four princesses debate their fate. 7pm. R80 at Computicket.

• The Shadow of the Hummingbird ends July 26 at The Fugard Theatre. Written, directed and starring Athol Fugard, who returns to the stage after an absence of 15 years and plays opposite Marviantos Baker in this intimate, delicate two-hander. 8pm. R130 to R150 at Computicket.

• Bokele and the Sun ends Saturday at the Rosebank Theatre. An African creation story told with puppets, created by Isabelle Grobler and Jill Joubert. 10pm. R50 at www.webtickets.co.za.
