The South African Film and Television Awards 2017 will be held at Sun City this weekend. Over 1300 rooms have been booked for this prestigious event.

Here are top 5 things not to miss while there:

Zip 2000

With an average speed of 120 km/h over two kilometres and reaching speeds up to 160km/h. It is still one of the world’s longest zip slides.

Opened in 2004 Zip 2000 at Sun City is the world’s original extreme Zip Slide. For over six years it held the title of the world’s longest, highest and fastest zip slide. There is a higher zip slide in Alaska, there’s a longer zip slide in South America. But to get the total thrill of speed, distance and varying heights above ground Zip 2000 is the ultimate and original experience.

2. The Maze of the Lost City

The Maze of the Lost City at Sun City has been designed and constructed to resemble a semi-ruined Mayan stone maze, in keeping with the theme of the of The Lost City and the Valley of the Waves. The Maze covers an area of 2200square metres and is a challenging experience and great fun for everyone.

The Maze is reached by crossing a 90m long suspension bridge from the Sun City Entertainment Centre. The bridge is, itself, carefully engineered for absolute safety. As you cross the suspension bridge you enjoy splendid views of the Palace of the Lost City, the Bridge of Time and the valley of the waves. Then the path takes you through indigenous bush veld until you come to the entrance of The Maze of the Lost City. At the end of your journey you will be awarded with a craft beer, cider or ice cream at the very family friendly  Maze Bar which offers the finest in local craft beers, the bar has incredible views over Sun City.

3. South African Hall of Fame

Celebrate South Africa’s legends and be inspired by our sport stars’ and performing artists’ accomplishments at the SA Hall of Fame.A state-of-the-art interactive exhibition that celebrates the achievements of South Africa’s legends. But it’s not just their talents, skills and successes on show here. It’s how they helped shape the South African story that will inspire you and dare you to dream.

Compare your running speed to that of rugby phenomenon Seabelo Senatla or world record holder Wayde van Niekerk on an interactive running track. Take a swing for victory at the golf simulator, or head to the Samsung virtual reality area for various virtual reality experiences that will put you straight into the game.

4. Catch a bite at The Brew Monkey

Resembling a rustic microbrewery, inspired by the vervet monkey, The Brew Monkey  pub is the place to be for craft beer and artisanal meals. Overlooking famous  the tidal pool in the Valley of Waves, The Brew Monkey’s menu specialises in light meals ranging from homemade pies, sliders, wholesome salads and smash burgers, to snack baskets that are great for sharing. My favourite was the Karoo Lamb Burger.

Be sure to get there early to secure your table on the outdoor deck.

Get super chilled on the Lazy River:

Hop on the Lazy River ride with a buddy, gently and  slowly meander around the waterpark of  the Valley of waves.

Saftas 2017 awards ceremony will be held at Sun City on Saturday, 18 March and will be broadcast live on SABC 2 (DStv 192) at 20:00.
