Welkom - The bodies of two illegal miners that were found in a shaft of the Bambanani West mine near Welkom in December last year have yet to be claimed.

Police on Thursday made an urgent appeal for relatives to come forward and claim the bodies.

Police spokesman Captain Stephen Thakeng said that one of the men had been identified as being Radeapole Botere from Thaba-Tseka.

He said the second miner had not been identified.

“Both bodies have been lying at the government mortuary in Welkom and no one has come forward to identify them,” he said.

The two were found dead in an abandoned shaft on December 27.
