Cape Town - Its botanical gardens, beaches and “sweeping sea vistas” have earned Cape Town a spot in TripAdvisor’s top 10 destinations in the world.
In the annual poll, which asks users on the massive website to pick and rate everything from cities to accommodation, the city jumped up by nine spots from last year to 10th place.
Cape Town Tourism marketing manager Velma Corcoran said the website was “a very important part of Cape Town’s market presence”.
“(It generates) word-of-mouth based on honest reviews and varying levels of cultural expectations. Accolades involving actual users (travellers) are the ones to truly celebrate.”
The list, which was topped by Marrakech in Morocco, was populated by other cities such as Rome, Paris, London and Hanoi in Vietnam.
Cape Town took 10th place with its “picture-perfect views” at Blaauwberg Beach and Kirstenbosch’s National Botanical Garden.
Even the Cape’s beaches stood out with Camps Bay beach ranked by users as the 11th best in the world.
