Cape Town - Best laid plans and all that. We had every intention of taking a break from our self-guided walking tour of historic landmarks at the V&A Waterfront for a bit of sushi before continuing.

We even had a time frame. And a cut-off point.

To be brutally honest, both of those went out the window the moment we were shown to our couch on the upstairs deck of Harbour House.

I’ve eaten downstairs a few times, but this was a first for me. It is truly spectacular, and the sunny, calm day could not have been better.

Yachts and private ships glided in and out of the quays, we kicked off our shoes and reclined, took photographs with our cellphones, flirted with our fabulous waiter Wilson, and met some amazing people with fascinating life stories.

Along with a gorgeous platter of sushi (and some more for dessert), cocktails and wine, there was just no going back to the walk.

SUSHI FEAST: Great sushi makes a visit to Harbour House a must. It may not be the cheapest, but it's worth every cent. Picture: Adrian de Kock

It’s not the cheapest sushi in town – especially if, like me, you usually seek out the half-price and/or discounted places. After all, you get what you pay for, and presentation, freshness and flavour cannot be faulted.

The drinks, however, are surprisingly reasonable – about R40 for cocktails, and many decent rosé and white wines well below R200 a bottle, some less than R150.

It was more than that though; every element combined to create a wonderful experience. - Weekend Argus
