Johannesburg - Airbus has launched its new cabin brand, “Airspace by Airbus”.

At the heart of the design philosophy is connecting the well-being of passengers with airlines’ performance.

Representing the best of Airbus’s cabin innovation and design, Airspace offers a sophisticated, flexible canvas to enhance airlines’ brands.

Airbus is also launching the cabin for the forthcoming A330neo airliner, which embodies the Airspace principles and is inspired by the cabin of its wide-body sibling, the new A350 XWB in service.

Dr Kiran Rao, Airbus’s executive vice-president for strategy and marketing, said: “Airbus’s history of success is down to innovation – which has included the cabin as a key driver.

“With the great passenger feedback on the A350 XWB, and our application of A350 cabin technology and features to the A330neo, we are proud to (apply) our cabin design principles (to) our new brand, Airspace. The new A330neo is the launch vehicle for this brand, which with the A350 XWB begins a new family of Airbus cabins.

“These will empower airlines to create (a) personalised flying experience for their passengers, while optimising the economic performance of their aircraft space.”

Airspace cabins embody four principles: comfort, ambience, service and design, Airbus says. They’ll be more relaxing, inspiring, beautiful and functional, leading to a unique passenger experience.

For example, the company says passengers will appreciate the larger toilets and overhead storage compartments, wider seats and aisles, and unobstructed foot space under the seats.

Signature design elements will be recognisable in all Airspace cabins – such as the latest LED technology in ambient lighting, clean, straight lines and shapes, clear surfaces, and a distinctive but customisable welcome area.

The result is aesthetically pleasing and not just a “feeling” of space, but real space – as in the brand-new cabin for the A330neo, the company says.

Airbus produces the world’s most modern and comprehensive family of airliners.

Its aircraft range in capacity from 100 seats to more than 600, and more than 16 300 of them have been sold to more than 380 customers.

Airbus has design and manufacturing facilities in France, Germany, the UK and Spain and subsidiaries in the US, China, Japan, India and the Middle East.
