I am one of the unfortunate souls who rely on the SABC for my television entertainment and a window to the world.

Needless to say, in common with many others, I am apoplectic with its decision to terminate rugby Test broadcasts.

I recall that some time ago Sports Minister Fikile Mbalula insisted that all local Springbok Test matches be broadcast on the free-on-air basis.

So how has the bungling broadcaster been allowed to so badly abrogate its community licence responsibilities to the viewers?

I take this opportunity to thank e.tv for putting its money where its mouth is; displaying admirable professionalism and showing up SABC’s incompetence by broadcasting the Ellis Park Test match.

Thanks also to SuperSport’s Clinton van der Berg for making it available to e.tv. I hope it is the precursor of more such broadcasts.
