Ian Samson writes: It’s been 14 days since garbage in Windsor West has been cleared by Pikitup. It’s not doing the work for which it is paid. There is trash all over the suburb. I am sickened by the obvious lack of concern City of Joburg shows for my suburb. We live here. Look at this mess!
In Lords Avenue, in Windsor West Community Park, trash is dumped on the pavement. In Knights Avenue, on the corner of Louise Street, there is garbage everywhere. In Premiers Avenue, corner Louise Street, there is an old mattress and garbage dumped on the corner. Is this why we pay rates and taxes, and Pikitup? No excuses, people. Please get it cleared up.

Over the past six weeks, the refuse has not been collected on the due date. It often stands outside for more than a week. When I enquire at the Randburg depot, I am told that there are no trucks available.
Pikitup’s reply: We are presently experiencing delays in refuse collections due to fleet challenges, and the Randburg and Roodepoort areas are those most affected. We are working overtime to collect all outstanding bins, as well as sourcing additional vehicles to assist with the backlog.
We aim to have a long-term solution in place by April. We are embarking on a programme to see how we can improve our performance and productivity levels.
