SOCIAL networks were abuzz at the weekend over the decision to use Nelson Mandela’s image on all of the country’s banknotes.
While most users praised the move, some questioned why other liberation heroes weren’t also being honoured.
The new notes were unveiled by President Jacob Zuma on Saturday – the 22nd anniversary of Mandela’s release from prison.
Zuma said the gesture was a fitting tribute to Mandela, a symbol of the country’s struggle for freedom and democracy.
“With this humble gesture we are expressing our deep gratitude, as the South African people, to a life spent in service of the people of this country and in the cause of humanity worldwide,” Zuma said. – Sapa

Personally, I think having Mandela represented on our currency is very apt and it will act as a constant source of inspiration and hope to South African's. Those who said is the waste of money, that money is the one which is going to build the houses.Let us respect our DADA Madiba.
