POLICE from Kagiso on the West Rand are pleading with readers to help them track down three unknown men driving a white Toyota Tazz who are wanted for at least eight hijackings.

According to police spokesman Warrant Officer Solomon Sibiya, the last hijacking was reported on March 23 and the first was reported last month. “There is no specific time when these incidents take place. However, most happen in Impala Road from Chamdor past Leratong Hospital,” he said.

Motorists have been warned to be vigilant when driving on Impala Road, especially at night. Sibiya said victims were also robbed of cellphones and cash.

In the last incident, on March 23, a goods truck was hijacked by the men, who were driving a white Toyota Tazz.

“The hijackers had indicated to the truck driver to stop, making him believe there was something wrong with his vehicle. When the man stopped to check, he was held at gunpoint and forced into the truck and joined by one of the hijackers.

“Once on the road, the remaining two hijackers, driving a Tazz, led the trip before abandoning him and fleeing with the truck,” said Sibiya.

A week earlier, an Isuzu bakkie and a Mercedes-Benz were hijacked in the area, also by men in a white Tazz. The motorist was hijacked outside his work just after 7am.

“The man had just got out of his car when the unknown hijackers attacked him. They robbed him of his cellphone and R1 900 in cash before fleeing with his car.”

In February, a Mazda 323, a Ford double-cab bakkie and two VW minibuses were reported hijacked in the same area. They have not been recovered.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Kagiso police station on 011 696 9000 or Captain Jason Reddy on 011 696 9142 or 083 263 7148.
