Among the other countries who participated in the convention was Germany, USA, Chile, India and Canada, to mention a few.

A group of South African exporters of mining equipment and related services showcased their products.

Notably, South Africa's participation focused on machinery, equipment, technologies, services and supplies for the mining sector.

The Department of Trade and Industry (the dti) once again proved its allegiance by making it possible for the South African companies to participate in this exhibition.

This was made possible through the dti's Export Marketing and Investment Assistance (EMIA) scheme with the aim of increasing exports to Peru.

The purpose of the scheme is to develop export markets for South African products and services and to recruit new foreign direct investment into the country.

According to Minister of Trade and Industry, Rob Davies, trade relations between South Africa and Peru is 'very important'.

Davies added that South Africa recognises the huge potential of the Latin American group of countries and is cognisant of the fact that Peru is one of the fastest growing economies in the region.

South Africa proved its own potential by having scooped awards earlier this month at the Mozambique International Trade Fair (FACIM) out of about 30 countries.

The awards were for the Best Pavillion and the Best Exhibitor.
